Sustainable development - not just resilience - is needed to ensure the well-being of the world's population, Italy's deputy foreign minister Emanuela Del Re tweeted on Monday.
"There is something that is more than resilience: and that is development, especially sustainable development," read the tweet.
"We must be resilient but at the same time be ready to take a step forward and go beyond," the tweet underlined.
Italy's foreign ministry helped organise a Sustainable Development Festival through Thursday, with hundreds of events being organised throughout the country, attend by over 270 organizations.
Italy was among 193 countries which in September 2015 adopted the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development, committing to achieve 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.
