Italy intends to boost its cooperation with United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund, deputy foreign minister Emanuela Del Re told UNICEF executive director Henrietta Fore at a meeting in Rome on Thursday, the foreign ministry said in a statement.
"The Deputy Foreign Minister underscored that Italy intends to enhance its cooperation with UNICEF," the statement said.
"She expressed special appreciation for UNICEF’s active role in implementing the reform of the UN System promoted by Secretary-General (Antonio) Guterres, which Italy fully supports," the statement added.
Italy is among the top 15 contributors to UNICEF, Fore told Del Re, acknowledging Italy’s long-standing commitment to supporting the UN body. Italy is supporting UNICEF's Generation Unlimited youth programme which aims to see every young woman or man in the world be active studying or working by 2030, Fore noted.
Fore was in Italy for the UNICEF International Council held in Florence on Monday and Tuesday at the UNICEF ‘Innocenti’ Research Centre.
