Police have discovered human skulls, bones and a pair of women's shoes in a suspected Sicilian mafia 'cemetery' in countryside near its stronghold of Corleone.
The remains of "at least five people, maybe more" have been unearthed in a remote underground cave outside the town of Roccamena, some 35 kilometres southwest of Palermo, police said.
Anti-mafia police investigators and prosecutors have travelled to the site. They have not revealed what led them to the cave but were said to have received a tip-off from a "source other than an informant", Adnkronos has learned.
