A court in northern Italy on Thursday sentenced a 20-year-old Moroccan immigrant to two years in prison for advocating terrorism after he eulogised the Islamic State militant group online.
The document posted to the Internet by the Moroccan urged the Muslim faithful to pledge allegiance to the IS 'Caliphate' and described its organisation and "services to citizens", according to prosecutors.
The unnamed 20-year-old Moroccan, who lived in a village outside Turin was tried by a court in the northwestern city in a fast-track trial.
The trial followed an investigation by prosecutors in the northern city of Brescia in the neighbouring Lombardy region.
Four Moroccans suspected of fomenting terrorist attacks in Italy and internationally and of spreading jihad were deported last week, interior minister Angelino Alfano said in a statement.
