Italy's foreign minister Enzo Moavero Milanesi will meet his French counterpart Jean-Yves Le Drian in Rome for talks that will centre on this month's military escalation in war-wracked Libya, the foreign ministry said in a statement.
Moavero and Le Drian will brief reporters after their talks at the foreign ministry, according to the statement.
France, which has good relations with rogue eastern strongman Khalifa Haftar, last week blocked a European Union statement urging him to halt his militia's deadly two-week-long assault on Tripoli, according to diplomats.
Over 200 people have died including dozens of civilians and more than 1,000 have been injured in fighting between Haftar's Libyan National army and forces loyal to the internationally recognised government in Tripoli according to the United Nations.
France's support for Haftar has displeased Libya's former colonial ruler Italy, which supports the UN-backed unity government and a UN-facilitated peace plan to stabilise the chaos-stricken North African country.
