In a phone call, Russia's president Vladimir Putin and his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fatah la Sisi agreed to "further coordinate efforts" to halt the escalating conflict in Libya and stabilise the war-torn country.
The two leaders "underlined the importance attempts by Germany and the United Nations to mediate and foster the political process with the involvement of all of Libya's main actors," said a statement from the Kremlin.
Egypt and Russia both support eastern warlord Khalifa Haftar, whose militia has since April been fighting forces allied with Fayez al-Sarraj's UN-backed government in Tripoli for control of the Libyan capital.
