A 20-year-old American woman was fighting for her life in hospital on Wednesday after falling from the third floor of an apartment building in Perugia, central Italy.
Emergency services were called at around 2am on Wednesday after the young woman, from the US state of Florida, apparently lost her balance and plunged 12 metres onto the ground below.
She had reportedly been out with friends for the evening and had drunk considerably quantities of alcohol. Police questioned her friends through the night.
The woman was reported to have been talking on her cellphone at the time of the fall and was conscious when the ambulance arrived.
A native of the US state of Florida, she was staying in a central Perugia apartment as part of a study trip.
