Telecom Italia's appointment of veteran manager Pietro Labriola as its new chief executive paves the way for a revamp of the "strategic" company, foreign minister Luigi Di Maio said on Friday.
"The best of luck to Pietro Labriola as new TIM Chief Executive. Forward into new phase that will make ever-more central a strategic company of national interest."
Labriola was appointed Telecom Italia CEO with unanimous approval from directors, including a representative for state investor CDP.
Labriola will keep the position of General Manager, which he was appointed to on 26 November. He will resign as Director and CEO of TIM's Brazilian subsidiary, which he has run for the past three years.
