Di Maio thanks Romania for coronavirus team

Foreign minister Luigi Di Maio on Monday thanked Romania or sending a team of nurses to help frontline medics in hospitals fighting Italy's severe coronavirus epidemic.

"I am very glad that the Romanian government is among those that have responded to the foreign ministry's appeal for help," Di Maio tweeted.

"A military plane will take off from Bucharest with 11 doctors and six nurses on board to support Italian hospitals. This solidarity fills us with pride," the tweet added.

Norway will send 30 medics to Italy and coronavirus-busting supplies arrived aboard a flight from the United Arab Emirates overnight, Di Maio tweeted earlier on Monday.

A total 88 doctors and several nurses are among more than 16,500 people who have died from the Covid-19 coronavirus in Italy. A total 132,547 have been infected since the outbreak began in late February according to the civil protection agency.
