Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri and United Arab Emirates electronic firm Marakeb Technologies, have agreed to form a global partnership in the field of autonomous technology, Fincantieri said in a statement on Monday.
The two companies will assess Fincantieri’s current automation solutions and Marakeb Technologies’ patented unmanned technology and will jointly develop applications on various Fincantieri vessels under the accord, the statement said.
“This agreement strengthens our group in many respects," said Fincantieri Naval Vessel Business Unit general manager Giuseppe Giordo.
The "top-level partnership" with Marakeb Technologies will boost Fincantieri's market positioning and also allow the company to explore new opportunities, Giordo said.
"From an innovation standpoint, this agreement will also allow us to kick-start the development of cutting-edge solutions," he said.
The partnership aims to create future commercial opportunities in local and international markets by combining Marakeb’s proven track-record in the Middle East and North Africa region and Fincantieri’s strength in integrating new technologies and expanding its global footprint, said the statement.
The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Giordo and Marakeb Technologies chief executive officer Basel Shuhaiber at the 2020 Unmanned Systems Exhibition and Conference in Abu Dhab, according to the statement.
