Italy's foreign ministry on Tuesday approved a foreign aid package worth 60 million euros to fund initiatives in Africa, Asia and Latin America and on awareness-raising and global citizenship education.
The biggest share of the funding - 26 million euros - is for initiatives in Africa, Asia and Latin America, while Senegal will benefit from a credit line worth a further ten million euros to promote inclusive, high-quality education.
A total 20 million euros of the funds were earmarked for awareness-raising and global citizenship education activities, while four million euros were set aside for international organisations.
The funding measures were approved at an annual meeting of the foreign ministry's Joint Committee for Overseas Aid and Development that was chaired by deputy foreign minister Marina Sereni and attended top foreign ministry officials.
The foreign ministry's director-general for Italians abroad and migration policy, Luigi Maria Vignali, gave an update on the ministry's migration fund and the meeting also received a briefing on a new initiative involving state lender Cassa Depositi e Prestiti.
