Pope Francis on Friday urged global action to combat the scourge of human trafficking and "new forms of slavery".
"I call on all people of goodwill to take action against human trafficking and new forms of slavery," Francis wrote in a tweet.
December 2 is United Nations International Day for the Abolition of Slavery including forced labour, child labour, and the exploitation of migrant and other workers in households, the agriculture and building sectors, the garment, fishing and other industries and prostitution.
Francis' nine-language @pontifex account on Twitter has over 30 million followers.
