Lebanon’s premier Saad al-Hariri will “certainly” remain prime minister and the country’s political crisis “will be resolved definitively in a few days”, the country's president Michel Aoun Italian daily La Stampa quoted him as saying during a visit to Italy on Wednesday.
“We have just finished talks with all the political forces, within and outside government. There is a broad agreement,” Aoun said.
Hariri announced he was stepping down as premier in a broadcast speech on 4 November during a visit to Saudi Arabia. Aoun refused to accept Hariri's resignation and Hariri returned to Lebanon nearly three weeks later on 22 November and postponed his departure from office.
Hariri said on Monday he would stay on as prime minister if Iran’s Lebanese ally the powerful Shia political and military organisation Hezbollah agreed to stay out of regional conflicts.
