As an exporting nation, Italy hopes an accord can be reached to end international tensions fuelled by trade disputes among major economies, notably the bitter spat over tariffs between the US and China, foreign minister Luigi Di Maio said on Monday.
"We hope that an agreement can be reached as soon as possible as this is necessary to reduce tensions," Di Maio told reporters in Shanghai, where he is attending the China International Import Expo (CIIE).
"Italy is a net exporter and sends 40 million euros worth of typical products around the word and this could grow further," he said.
"But the trade tensions between European countries, the United States and China do not help international markets or our companies."
Typical Italian goods "need to go all over the world", Di Maio said.
