Italy and the United States are cooperating on the green transition "in a "synergistic way", foreign minister Luigi Di Maio tweeted on Friday after talks with US president Joe Biden's special envoy for climate, John Kerry.
"It was a pleasure to receive John Kerry, President Biden's climate envoy at the foreign ministry. We looked at the ecological transition, an important challenge that Italy and the US are taking on together in synergistic way," read the tweet.
Kerry was in Rome on Thursday and Friday for talks with senior members of the Italian government, including Di Mao and premier Mario Draghi.
Italy is Kerry's first stop on a week-long European tour to discuss climate change initiatives with Italian, UK and German officials and business people ahead of the UN's crucial COP26 climate change conference in Glasgow in November.
