Police have arrested a 50-year-old man in northern Italy who allegedly suffocated his disabled son before trying to gas himself the family apartment.
Police found the man's 20-year-old son dead at the apartment in the town of Vespolate near Novara and his father unconscious in the kitchen.
A relative who had been expecting the man and his son for dinner on Monday raised the alarm after no one answered the door at the apartment.
The man's wife died of cancer 18 months ago and his son lived in a residential home but stayed with his father at the weekends.
Police are investigating what may have prompted the murder and attempted suicide.
