The foreign ministry has made available new digital tools for Italian citizens who are abroad that will make it easier to locate them when they require help, the ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.
Using the website www.dovesiamonelmondo.it, long-term or temporary Italian residents abroad can insert their address on a map on the site, as well as emergency contact details. Any Italian located abroad can use the service, the statement said.
The foreign ministry's Crisis Unit app will be available "soon" for Android and iPhone, allowing citizens to report their location in an emergency using their phone’s GPS (Global Positioning System) and to consult the www.viaggiaresicuri.it site more easily.
“This is a new instrument through which the foreign ministry is reiterating its intent to act at the service of citizens by exploiting the opportunities opened up by the digital transition," said foreign ministry secretary-general Ettore Francesco Sequi.
"Innovation continues to be one of the cornerstones of our activity,” Sequi underlined.
