Catholics should fight illegality and corruption by being a moral force within lay political parties and society, not by founding a party for Catholics, Pope Francis said on Thursday.
"In the face of a culture of lawlessness and corruption...Christians must work for the common good that can include getting involved in politics," Francis said.
"But founding a Catholic party is not the way and is not necessary," he said in unscripted comments to representatives from two associations.
