Foreign minister Luigi Di Maio on Monday thanked Libya's interim unified executive led by premier Abdul Hamid Debeibah for renewing Italian companies' confidence in the war-torn country.
"It is thanks to the massive efforts of the national unity government, represented here at the highest level by the Prime Minister Dbeibah, that our businesses can look to Libya with renewed confidence," Di Maio said in opening remarks to a bilateral business forum.
"His (Dbeibah's) presence gives very high value to this meeting, which constitutes a further important step in the process of renewing the bilateral partnership that Italy and Libya took immediately following the formation a transitional unified executive", underlined Di Maio.
Eni, Snam, Saipem, Terna, Ansaldo Energia, Fincantieri, Psc Group, Italtel, Leonardo, WeBuild, Gruppo Ospedaliero San Donato and Cnh Industrial were represented at Monday's business forum.
"We want our entrepreneurs to be able to build privileged relationships with the government of national unity and access to opportunities that emerge thanks to the transition process underway in the country," Di Maio said.
Dbeibah's government "is an interlocutor that represents the whole country" and with which "we can plan future investments throughout Libya", Di Maio underlined.
"We are at a critical turning-point in stabilising Libya politically - the route to lasting peace has received new impetus," Di Maio stated.
