Italy's ambassador to the United Kingdom, Pasquale Terracciano will "soon" take up his new post as his country's envoy to Russia, the Giornale Diplomatico news site reports.
Terracciano, 61, will take over from Cesare Maria Ragaglini as Italy's ambassador to Russia. He has served as Italy's envoy to the UK since 1 May 2013 and was ambassador to Spain from 31 July 2006 to 20 July 2010.
Terracciano has held various senior posts at the Italian foreign ministry and in November 2011 became diplomatic advisor to Italy's prime minister and was a top aide to the premier at the G8 and G20 summits.
Earlier, he was appointed First Counsellor with the Italian Representation to NATO where he handled negotiations between NATO and the EU from 2000-2001.
Terracciano is married with three children and speaks English, French, Spanish and Portuguese fluently. A qualified lawyer, he began his diplomatic career in 1981 at the European Union's Directorate General for Personnel and in 1985 was posted to Rio de Janeiro as Consul.
