The Italian and European Union flags flew at half mast at the embassy in Algiers on Thursday in a sign of respect for the scores of victims of the wildfires that have swept northern Algeria in recent days.
"Flags at half mast to mark the national mourning declared for the many victims caused by the blazes," the embassy tweeted with a photo.
"We feel close to all the families that have been affected and share the whole of Algeria's pain," the tweet added.
At least 65 people and 28 soldiers have died in the wildfires that have torn through forested areas especially in the Kabylie area to the east of Algiers, according to Algerian state television.
