Italy's interior minister Luciana Lamorgese will brief members of the lower house of parliament next week on an agreement with Libya to manage migration and fight human trafficking,
Larmorgese will address MPs on Wednesday on the memorandum of understanding signed between Italy and Libya in February 2017.
The MoU is due to be automatically renewed at the weekend unless one of the parties opts out.
The government wants to "improve" the MoU with a focus on improving conditions at the North African country's migrant detention centres, Italy's foreign minister Luigi Di Maio told the Senate on Wednesday.
Under the accord, the Italian government and the European Union have given the Libyan coast guard boats, training and other assistance to patrol the Mediterranean and pull back tens of thousands of refugees and migrants hoping to reach Europe by boat.
