France's president Emmanuel Macron will on Thursday meet Italy's premier Paolo Gentiloni and president Sergio Mattarella during a two-day visit to Rome, according to the French presidency's Facebook page.
Gentiloni's office confirmed Macron's visit to Rome but gave no details of his itinerary.
Gentiloni is due to accompany Macron Thursday on a virtual reality tour of the newly restored 2,000-year-old Domus Area - Emperor Nero's golden palace, located on the Colle Oppio hill opposite the Colosseum, which is closed to the public on weekdays, Rome daily Il Messaggero reports.
Italy's culture minister Dario Franceschini will also attend Macron's Domus Area tour, the culture ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.
Macron will hold meetings with Gentiloni and Matterella, the French presidency's Facebook page states without giving the time or location of the meetings.
Macron will earlier take part in a summit in Rome of southern Mediterranean countries on Wednesday attended by Italy, Greece, Cyprus, Malta, Portugal and Spain, the French presidency said on its Facebook page.
The southern Mediterranean summit will be addressed by Gentiloni, the premier's office confirmed. No conference programme or information on the event was available.
