Member of Italy's parliament will on Wednesday question Italy's ambassador to the UK, Raffaele Trombetta, on travel in the borderless Schengen zone since the transition phase of Britain's exit from the European Union ended on 1 January.
Members of the lower house of parliament's Schengen, Europol and immigration committees will question Trombetta via video link starting at 2pm, according to a parliamentary statement.
The hearing will be streamed live on the parliament's website, according to the statement.
Under the new European Travel Information and Authorization System (Etias), from 2022, nationals from previously visa-free third countries, including UK citizens, will have to pay for a visa-waiver to visit Schengen-area countries and to fill out an Etias application form before setting off.
Italy is one of the Schengen area's 26-nations, which have officially abolished all passport and all other types of controls at their mutual borders.
