Russia's president Vladimir, who ordered the devastating military offensive in Ukraine, is the only person who can end the war and must show he wants peace, according to Italy's foreign minister.
"The entire international community is working for peace, but Putin wanted this war and only he can stop it," Di Maio told Sky News 24.
"A peace accord is the way forward," Di Maio underlined.
"But clearly Putin must show that he wants peace," Di Maio said.
Putin currently "seems more interested in saving his face than the fact that people are dying", Di Maio stated.
