Libya's premier Fayez al-Sarraj will travel to Turkey via Italy for talks with top Libyan officials, sources cited by 218 Tv, which is close to Libya's eastern warlord Khalifa Haftar, on Thursday.

Sarraj flew to Italy together with the head of diplomatic protocol Faisal Obeid aboard a private plane that took off from Mitiga airport, 218 Tv reported.

After his visit to Italy, Sarraj will head to Turkey, where Libya's interior minister Fathi Bashagha, defence minister Salahuddin al-Namroush, and top security and military officials have already arrived, according to 218 Tv.

Khaled al-Mishri, the head of Libya's Hight Council of State also travelled to Turkey on Thursday for the talks.

A total of 16 top Libyan military and security figures will take part in the talks in Turkey, which is a staunch supporter of the Libya-based Government of National Accord headed by Sarraj.

Libya's former colonial master, Italy also backs the GNA, which is the war-ravaged country's internationally recognised government.

Since, 2014, Liby has had a rival administration in the east of country which is aligned with Haftar.
