The crisis in Taliban-controlled Afghanistan and the role of multilateral forums like the G20 in managing it as well as cooperation between Italy and China were the focus of phone talks on Tuesday between Italy's premier Mario Draghi and China's president Xi Jinping.
"Prime Minister Draghi had a telephone conversation this morning with the President of the People's Republic of China, Xi Jinping. They mainly discussed the recent developments of the Afghan crisis and the possible areas of international cooperation to manage it, including the G20," said a statement from Draghi's office.
"Prime Minister Draghi and President Xi also discussed the collaboration between Italy and China in view of the Rome Summit, as well as at bilateral level," the statement added.
Italy will host the G20 heads of state and government meeting in Rome on 30-31 October.
