Tunis museum to reopen after deadly terror attack

Tunisia's renowned Bardo museum will reopen on to the public on Sunday after it was closed following last week's deadly terrorist attack, state news agency Tap reported citing a statement by the museum.

Tunisia's renowned Bardo museum will reopen on to the public on Sunday after it was closed following last week's deadly terrorist attack, state news agency Tap reported citing a statement by the museum.

A symbolic reopening was ceremony was due to take place on Tuesday, museum communications chief Hanane Srarf said, quoted by Tap.

The Tunisian government had previously announced the Bardo museum would reopen on Tuesday but security concerns appeared to have halted the museum's reopening.

Tunisia's prime minister Habib Essid dismissed six police chiefs on Monday apparently after noting several security flaws during a visit to the museum, which houses a major collection of Roman mosaics and other antiquities.

Jihadist gunmen opened fire on coachloads of foreign tourists arriving at the museum on 18 March, killing 20 of them and injuring many more.

Two Tunisian gunmen and a Tunisian policeman also died in the attack, which was claimed by the Islamic State extremist group.

One suspected gunmen is still at large and seven suspects have been arrested.
