Powerful eastern military commander Khalifa Haftar will not participate in the two-day conference on stabilising Libya that kicked off in the Italian city of Palermo Monday but will take part in a separate summit "far from Palermo" a news site close to Haftar reported on Monday.
Italy's premier Giuseppe Conte, Russian prime minister Dmitry Medvedev and the presidents of Egypt, Tunisia, Chad and Niger will also attend the 'secure' summit being held in an undisclosed location, according to The Address website.
The Italian government denied a visit by Conte on Sunday to the eastern port city of Benghazi, reported by The Address, during which he allegedly invited Haftar to the separate summit.
