Italy's premier Giuseppe Conte will told talks with Lebanon's prime minister Saad Hariri, with its president Michel Aoun and parliament speaker Nabih Berri during a visit to the country on Thursday, Conte's office said in a statement.
Conte will give a joint press conference with Hariri after their meeting in Beirut - the first appointment scheduled for Conte's one-day visit.
After talks with Aoun and Berri, Conte is due to visit the ‘Millevoi’ military base in Shama, southern Lebanon, said the statement from Conte's office.
Conte will meet members of the United Nations UNIFIL peacekeeping mission and the bilateral MIBIL mission as well as troops at the base, according to the statement.
In a statement on Friday, Conte hailed as "a long-awaited and positive development" the formation of a new national unity government in Lebanon, which ended nearly 9 months of wrangling after national polls held in May last year.
The UN peacekeeping force in Lebanon, UNIFIL, is under Italian command and Italy currently contributes 1,065 troops, according to UNIFIL's website.
