War-torn Libya and the Sahel were at the centre of talks on Friday in Rome between Italys' foreign minister Luigi Di Maio and his Algerian counterpart Sabri Boukadoum, the foreign ministry tweeted.
"The ministers had in-depth discussions on topics of common interest such as Libya and the Sahel," read the tweet.
Italy is Algeria's top trading partner and its third biggest supplier, the tweet noted.
The two ministers met on the sidelines of the annual MED - Mediterranean Dialogues Conference. The event is focusing on the region's main crises especially Libya and Syria as well as a raft of issues including migration, terrorism, climate change, technology and investment.
Representatives of over 55 countries are taking part in the two-day conference through Saturday, among them heads of state and government, ministers, senior officials and representatives of the major international organisations, scholars and experts.
