European Union states should be "ambitious" in the 2021-2027 budget and join forces to fight global warming and growing inequality, European Parliament president David Sassoli tweeted on Friday.
"The climate crisis and rising inequality can only be tackled together," read the tweet.
"Today in Rome I called on national governments to be ambitious on the next long term EU budget. The European Parliament will not approve if it doesn't address these challenges and boost growth and cohesion," the tweet added.
Sassoli was in Rome to attend a conference on the next Multiannual Fnancial Framework as the EU's long-term budget is called.
