An alleged jihadi cell smashed by police in northern Italy on Wednesday is not the only one in the country, a senior policeman told Adnkronos on Wednesday.
"Over the years, dozens of people have been recruited via the network put in place by the cell, which I believe was not the only one operating in Italy," the city of Brescia's police superindent Carmine Esposito told Adnkronos.
He spearheaded a probe that led to Wednesday's arrests of two Albanians suspected of recruiting jihadists and of an Italian of Moroccan origin who allegedly spread extremist propaganda over the Internet.
"The investigation has underlined how active and effective these networks are in recruiting young people to go and fight in the Middle East conflicts," Esposito stressed.
