Anti-mafia police seize €20mln from Naples entrepreneurs

Police in Naples on Monday impounded assets worth 20 million euros from three siblings suspected of links to the local mafia or Camorra including companies, a restaurant, and bank accounts.

During Monday's operation police seized six companies, shares in a further, a restaurant in the centre of the northern city of Milan, 66 bank accounts in Italy and abroad, vehicles and premises hired out for functions in the Naples suburb of Pozzuoli.

The assets were impounded from Bruno, Salvatore and Assunta Potenza on the order of anti-mafia prosecutors in Naples, police said.

The Potenza siblings were "close to Camorra-linked criminal environments," and used the seized assets to "invest cash from usury, extortion and money-laundering" among other criminal activities, according to investigators.

Italian prosecutors asked Swiss counterparts for help in the probe, said police.

The Camorra is one of Italy's oldest, wealthiest and most violent mafias. Extortion is one of its main sources of revenue, along with drug trafficking, arms trading, prostitution, usury and waste disposal.

The Camorra's ruthless workings were laid bare by Roberto Saviano's best-selling book 'Gomorrah' published in 2006 and the award-winning film of the same name.
