A 25-year-old workman died from head injuries he sustained on Tuesday while repairing storm-damaged power lines in Italy's southern Calabria region.
Pasquale Princi died in hospital in Reggio Calabria after he was hit by a metal pole as technicians worked to disentangle power lines from an uprooted tree in San Roberto.
San Roberto is one of the towns in Calabria to have been worst affected by several days of torrential rain this week which also hit areas of Sicily.
Calabria's governor said on Monday he would ask the Italian government to declare a state of emergency to help the region recover from the rainstorms that caused flooding and swept away roads and railways lines.
