Italy's premier Giuseppe Conte on Thursday urged citizens as well as the country's institutions "to work for the common good" during a visit to Naples' San Fernando Theatre where irate residents protested the run-down state of the theatre and surrounding area.
"It is right to hold institutions responsible but also citizens, we all need to work for the common good. I don't shirk my responsibilities...but individual citizens too should participate," Conte said.
Conte was in Naples for a bilateral summit with France's president Emmanuel Macron at the 18th-century Palazzo Reale.
Ahead of the summit, Conte and Macron visited San Fernando Theatre and the baroque Capella San Severo to view the famous Veiled Christ marble sculpture by Giuseppe Sanmartino.
