The current state of war-wracked Libya was the focus of "an exchange of view" between Italy's envoy to Libia, Giuseppe Buccino, and ex-chairman of the High Council of State advisory body, Abdurrahman Sewehli, in Tripoli Wednesday, the embassy tweeted.
"Ambassador Giuseppe Buccino met former president of the High Council of State Abdurrahman Sewehli in Tripoli for an exchange of views on the current situation," read the tweet.
The United Nations says at least 653 have been killed and 3,547 injured in the fighting in Tripoli between militias loyal to the internationally recognised government and eastern warlord Khalifa Haftar's forces, which began an assault on the capital on 5 April.
International diplomatic efforts towards a ceasefire and the resumption of peace talks between Libya's warring sides are ongoing.
