Foreign minister Angelino on Thursday paid tribute to over five million Italians who are resident abroad, saying the government supported "this priceless resource...in every corner of the world".
"The more than five and a half million Italians who are living in other countries around the world are a priceless resource for our country," said Alfano.
"Our daily commitment is to stand by our fellow citizens in every corner of the world to make the most of this precious treasure," Alfano added.
He was speaking at the plenary assembly of the General Council for Italians Abroad, taking place at the Italian foreign ministry in Rome.
