Italy fully supports war-torn Central African Republic as it heads towards key presidential, legislative and local elections later this year, deputy foreign minister Emanuela Del Re tweeted on Friday.
"Very pleased to have a phone conversation with CAR president (Faustin Archange Touadera) during a visit to Rome. Italy stands shoulder to shoulder with the country in its efforts towards reconciliation, dialogue and peace," read the tweet.
Touadera announced last week he would run for re-election in CAR's presidential election in December, when he will face off against deposed ex-president Francois Bozize and former interim president Catherine Samba-Panza.
