European Union Council president Charles Michel on Friday sent Italy a message of solidarity in a letter to its president Sergio Mattarella, telling him the country "is not alone" in its fight against the dramatic coronavirus outbreak.
"Through you, Mr President, I would like to send citizens a simple message: Italy is not alone in the face of this pandemic," read the letter.
Italy and Europe will emerge "stronger than before" from the health and economic crisis caused by the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic, the letter stated.
"As we hear coming from every corner of your wonderful country - everything will be all right," the letter ended, referring to a slogan that began on a mothers' Facebook group and went viral across Italy.
