Italy is the leading supplier of furniture to the "complex" yet "stimulating" Chinese market, foreign undersecretary Ivan Scalfarotto said Tuesday at the Milan-Shanghai Furniture Fair, according to a foreign ministry statement.
"Italy is the primary supplier of furniture to the Chinese market," Scalfarotto said.
The Milan-Shanghai Furniture Fair, the most important event aimed at promoting Italian craftsmanship, furniture and design in China, runs from Wednesday to Friday.
"Thanks to the government and the commitment of all economic actors, we have enhanced Italy's culture of design and reputation for high quality in a complex but stimulating market like China's," he stated.
Earlier, Scalfarotto met the president of the European Chamber of Commerce in China, Joerg Wuttke. He also visited the headquarters of Asia's largest online Asian travel agency - the second largest in the world - with which joint initiatives with the Italian national tourism board ENIT and its diplomatic network in China are underway to promote tourism to Italy, according to the statement.
