Italy welcomed an agreement by Yemen's warring sides to renew a two-month truce expiring on Tuesday, urging them to use the time to forge a longer-term ceasefire and to keep working towards a lasting peace.
"Italy welcomes the further extension of the truce in Yemen brokered by the United Nations special envoy (Hans Grundberg)," the foreign ministry tweeted.
"We encourage the dies to seize this opportunity to agree an extended truce and to keep working on all the issues to be resolved," the tweet added.
Yemen’s more-than-seven-year-old conflict, which pits a Saudi-led coalition against the Iran-aligned Houthis, who control north Yemen, has killed tens of thousands of people and left millions facing hunger.
