A parliamentary intelligence committee will on Wednesday quiz Italy's foreign minister Enzo Moavero on the intensifying conflict in Libya and on talks this week in Rome to halt the military escalation in the lawless country.
The hearing will focus on the deadly fighting in Tripoli between forces loyal to Libya's internationally recognised government and rogue eastern general Khalifa Haftar's militia after he ordered it to advance on the capital earlier in April.
During the hearing, Moavero will also brief the lower house of parliament's intelligence and security services committee on progress made in talks on Monday and Tuesday between members of the Italian government and Libya's deputy premier Ahmed Maitig.
Conte and Moavero held talks in Rome Monday on Libya with Qatar's deputy premier and foreign minister Mohammed al-Thani as part of efforts towards a ceasefire in Tripoli and a withdrawal of Haftar's forces.
