Masked gunmen on Friday in Sardinia shot dead a highschool student, whose teachers said was one of their best pupils, reports said, citing witnesses.
Nineteen-year-old Gianluca Monni was waiting for a local public bus to take him to school in Nuoro, central Sardinia, when the gunmen shot him three times before fleeing in a getaway car, witnesses said
Police were questioning other students who were waiting for the bus with Monni and witnessed his killing.
The head of Monni's highschool cancelled lessons for the day and teachers held counselling sessions with pupils upset by his murder.
The Unione Sarda daily quoted classmates of Monni as saying he was aimable but had recently quarrelled with "a group of youths" who were allegedly bullying his girlfriend.
Monni had no police record. Teachers at his school said he was one of the best students who was well-liked and never had any disciplinary problems.
