Chemical weapons attacks are "terrible international crimes" whose perpetrators will be brought to justice, Italy's foreign minister Angelino Alfano said on Tuesday.

"We are determined to respond with force to the terrible international crimes that are perpetrated with chemical weapons," Alfano said.

He was addressing the Conference of the International Partnership against Impunity for the Use of Chemical Weapons being held in Paris.

The meeting is being attended by representatives from 33 countries including G7 member states, the major European countries, India, South Korea, Turkey, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Kuwait.

It aims to reaffirm condemnation of the use of chemical weapons, support international mechanisms designed to prevent attacks, ascertain responsibility and exchange information in the event of such an atrocity.
