Italy's Forza Italia party and its far-right League party ally in the conservative alliance will contest the 2019 European Parliament elections with separate lists, EU president Antonio Tajani stated on Friday.
"There will be proportional representation at the European Parliament elections, there won't be single lists, therefore the coalition doesn't field candidates - each political party has its own list," Tajani stated.
He was answering questions by reporters on the sidelines of a European People's Party conference taking place in the hilltop town of Fiuggi, southeast of Rome.
Tajani, a member of Forza Italia, helped billionaire media magnate Silvio Berlusconi found the party in 1994.
