Russia's 387-day-old invasion of Ukraine is a threat to Euro-Atlantic values and requires a "firm, united response" to end the conflict and reach an enduring peace accord, Italy's president, Sergio Mattarella, said on Friday.
"Today, with the conflict unleashed by the Russian Federation on Ukrainian territory, we are experiencing an open threat to the values of the European and Atlantic communities, which necessitates a firm, united response," Mattarella said in a speech to mark Italy's National Unity Day.
"This response from within the common European and Atlantic identity is needed to bring an end to the fighting and to achieve a lasting peace agreement," Mattarella underlined.
