Little caring gestures make us feel that God is at hand and allow us mercy, Pope Francis told Catholics in a Tweet.
"Small gestures of love, of tenderness, of care, make people feel that the Lord is with us. This is how the door of mercy opens," he wrote.
Francis has declared a Jubilee Year of Mercy that runs until 30 November, during which Catholics worldwide are encouraged to renew their relationship with God and seek forgiveness for their sins, according to a 700-year-old tradition.
The pope's @Pontifex account on Twitter is published in nine languages and has more than 22 million followers.
