Police called to an address in the northern Italian mountainside town of Tenno on Monday found the lifeless bodies of a 24-year-old man and his 22-year-old girlfriend inside and a pistol lying beside them.
Fireman had to break into the property in the province of Trento after neighbours reported hearing shots being fired.
Police said they were investigating the apparent murder-suicide.
