Italy and Morocco's relations are "highly dynamic" and the two countries have reached "an excellent level of bilateral cooperation" according to foreign minister Luigi Di Maio.
Political, diplomatic, security and counter-terrorism cooperation between Italy and Morocco is especially strong, Di Maio told his Moroccan counterpart Nasser Bourita in Marrakesh on Tuesday.
"I underlined the importance of the role that Rabat plays as a beacon of stability for the Sahel and the wider Mediterranean regions, thanks to His Majesty Mohammed VI's reforms in Morocco," Di Maio stated.
Di Maio also expressed Italy's "strong interest in maintaining and strengthening the legal framework that binds Morocco to the European Union and an ever-stronger partnership," he said.
A business forum being set up between Italy and Morocco's main business associations, Confindustria and the Confédération Générale des Entreprises, will bring "great benefits", Di Maio said.
"There will be growing cooperation between and integration of the two countries' industrial production amid prospects for renewed cooperation and prosperity in the Mediterranean," he underlined.
Di Maio and Bourita held talks on the sidelines of a meeting in Marrakesh of the Global Coalition to Defeat Daesh/ISIS, which Morocco and the United States are chairing.
